Our story

Small batches, baked when you ask.

Sweet and Sour started with a sourdough starter and a soft spot for dessert. We bake slowly, in small batches, and only when someone asks. That might be cinnamon rolls for Sunday, a few dozen cookies for a party, or a table of sweets for a wedding in Rochester.

Every order is made to order. The starter is fed, the dough gets time, and the tray is finished with care. Nothing waits in a case for a stranger. It is baked for you.

Why people come back

  • Handmade, one tray at a time.
  • Sourdough at the heart of the baking.
  • Made to order, so the sweets are fresh.
  • Personal attention on every order, from a single cookie to a wedding.

Questions

Before you order

Cookies
How far ahead do I need to order?

Standard menu orders need 3 full days. Choose a Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday ready day. Weddings and events should start at least 6 weeks out. If a holiday is close, write sooner. If your date is tighter than that, ask anyway and we will tell you if we can bake it.

Where do I pick up, and do you deliver?

Pickup is in Rochester, NY, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 11:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. We confirm the pickup spot by email after you order. There is no walk-in counter. Pickup is free. Local delivery is $8 in Rochester, Brighton, Irondequoit, Henrietta, Pittsford, Penfield, Greece, Gates, Chili, Webster, Fairport, and East Rochester, with a $30 minimum. We do not ship boxes.

Do I need an account?

No. Add what you want, choose pickup or delivery, and pay as a guest.

What will I be charged?

You pay the menu price. Pickup adds nothing. Delivery adds $8 inside our towns. We do not add a service fee or a card surcharge. Card payments run through Stripe, and the bakery pays Stripe's processing fee (about 2.9% plus 30¢ on a standard online card). New York sales tax is not added yet. We will turn tax on only after a New York registration is active.

Can you bake for a wedding?

Yes. Send the date, place, guest count, and the desserts you have in mind. We reply with what we can bake and a quote. Please start at least 6 weeks ahead. Everyday orders still go through Order Online.

Are the desserts gluten-free?

No. Sourdough is still wheat. Most cookies, cakes, breads, and morning bakes start with a slow-fed sourdough starter. Rice Krispie treats are the exception: they are handmade here without sourdough. The kitchen handles wheat, dairy, eggs, peanuts, and may handle tree nuts. Read the note on each item, and tell us about allergies in the order notes.

Can I change or cancel?

Call or email us before we start baking if you need to change the order. Once baking starts, we cannot refund it, because the sweets were made for you.

What are your hours?

Pickup and delivery: Thursday–Sunday, 11:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Notes and questions: Any day. We reply within one business day.
